
Born in Shanghai, Shu Haolun graduated from East China University of Technology in 1994 with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. He later studied film directing and screenwriting at Southern Illinois University in the United States, earning a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree.
After returning to China in 2003, he directed a few documentary films, most notably, Struggle (2001), and Nostalgia (2006). He later wrote and directed his first dramatic feature, ‘No.89 Shimen Road (2011), which he produced with his own independent production company, ‘Film Spirit Productions’.
Shu’s films have screened by multiple international film festivals and won many awards. After it was released, No.89 Shimen Road won an award at the Nanjing Independent Film Festival, and it is currently being distributed in Europe via DVDs and movie theatres.
Shu currently resides in Shanghai and is also a faculty member at the School of Film and Television at Shanghai University.
